The following ‘Overhead Environment’ courses are available through IDTA,
Cave Module 1
AIM
This course is designed to develop the minimum skills and knowledge for cavern and overhead environment diving within the limits of light penetration, in addition outlines specific hazards associated with cave diving. The Cave MOD1 Course is not intended to provide instructions for cave diving environments.
The objective of this course is to train divers in the proper planning, procedures, techniques and hazards of cave diving.
PREREQUISITES
- Minimum age 18.
- Minimum certification as a Nitrox Diver
- Minimum of 20 logged dives
- Be physically and mentally fit.
- Have DAN insurance (or equivalent)
REQUIRED COURSE MINIMUMS AND LIMITATIONS
- Minimum 3 days with at least 16 hours classroom / briefing
- Cave Dives – 4 with a total bottom time of 80 minutes minimum, conducted at 2 different sites at least
Cave Module 2
AIM
This course is an introduction to the basic principles of cave diving utilizing a single cylinder for decompression. Cave Mod 2 diving is the second level in the development of safe techniques for cave diving, directly building upon the Cave Mod 1 diver course. This introduction to cave diving is not intended to train divers for all facets of cave diving.
The objective of this course is the perfection of skills taught in the Cave Mod 1 diving program, in addition to the adoption of additional techniques and procedures required for elementary cave dives
PREREQUISITES
- Minimum age 18.
- Minimum certification as a Decompression Nitrox Diver
- Minimum certification of ITDA Cave MOD1 or equivalent i.e IANTD, NACD, NSS-CDS, CDAA, CDG
- Be physically and mentally fit.
- Have DAN insurance (or equivalent)
REQUIRED COURSE MINIMUMS AND LIMITATIONS
- Minimum 5 days with at least 16 hours classroom / briefing
- Cave Dives – 6 with a total bottom time of 240 minutes minimum, conducted at least 2 different sites at least
Cave Module 3
AIM
This course is the third stage of training in the series of ITDA Cave Diver development program. Advanced cave dive planning, the practical execution of different types of cave systems and scenarios divers encounter are presented.
This cave diving course is not intended to prepare divers for evaluating all facets of cave diving
The objective of this course is to critique previous skills accomplished in The Cave Mod 1 and Cave Mod 2 Diving programs. Emphasis is placed upon dive planning and skill perfection through actual cave penetration
PREREQUISITES
- Minimum age 18.
- Minimum certification as a Decompression Nitrox Diver
- Minimum certification of ITDA Cave Diver MOD 2. or equivalent i.e IANTD, NACD, NSS-CDS, CDAA, CDG) or enroll on the full cave course with a minimum of 100 logged dives
- Be physically and mentally fit.
- Have DAN insurance (or equivalent)
REQUIRED COURSE MINIMUMS AND LIMITATIONS
- Minimum 5 days with at least 16 hours classroom / briefing
- Cave Dives – 8 with a total bottom time 480 minutes conducted at 3 different sites. At least one of these sites should be a location not utilized in training during Cave MOD 1 or MOD 2 Courses
NB For divers entering the full cave program without Cave MOD 1 and Cave MOD 2 certification, 16 cave dives with 760 minutes of total bottom time (not including decompression time) are required.
